Necessities for Band Camp…
1. An open mind with a positive attitude! – During camp we cover A TON of information in just a short amount of time. Keep an open mind as we move fast through these 2 weeks and enjoy putting together a product you will be proud of with a group of your peers!
2. Plenty of sleep – Don’t stay up to 1am watching Netflix. Camp is a pretty demanding 2 weeks on your body and getting sick or not being able to give 100% is going to get you behind quickly. Stay healthy this month!!!
3. Lunch (Week 1)/ Snack (both weeks) – There is a lunch break in week 1 from 12:00-1:00 everyday. We encourage students to bring/pack a lunch to maximize this time to eat and get to know their new band.
Please note: Students MUST STAY ON CAMPUS for Lunch and breaks. This is a great opportunity for band bonding and social time.
4. Water Bottle – Stay hydrated. This is a movement activity at altitude. We will provide coolers to refill your water bottles throughout the day.
5. Comfortable Athletic Clothing – We move a lot in this activity. Wear what you would to gym class.
NO Jeans or Sandals.
6. SUNSCREEN/Sunglasses/Hat – Sun protection is incredibly important in our activity. Make sure your wear plenty of sunscreen and re-apply. Melanoma is no joke.
7. Dot Book – You will need to have a small (3.5 x 5) blank spiral bound notebook. ($3 at CVS,Walgreens,Target,Etc.) This notebook should contain roughly 150pgs. This will be used to write down your particular drill spots in a show that are unique to you. This notebook will contain all the info for each of your “sets” and any notes, choreography, or changes made throughout the season. Most commonly students keep these in a small pack on their waist with their chalk or on a long string around the shoulder.
This is a required piece of equipment at ALL practices during the season.
8. Red, Blue, and Yellow Sidewalk Chalk – These three pieces of sidewalk chalk are your lifeline to learning the specific “dots” for your show. Each student uses these three colors to mark where you stand at any particular moment in the show. These pieces of chalk and your dot book are required materials at ALL practices during the season.
